Vacation

July 1, 2004 Barbara

I am on vacation. It’s the first day of 12. I didn’t sleep in until noon. I had to get up at 7am to get the kids from Glenn’s at 8am. (Still, since I normally get up at 5am, that’s sort of sleeping in.) I also had a doctor appointment at 10:20, so this moring has been errands and stuff.

It seems like such a long time since the last vacation I had. I took a bunch of Fridays off from my 9-5 job during the tax season to work at the tax office, but those weren’t “real” vacation days. Although working at the tax office is more fun than working at the 9-5, it’s still work.

I wonder what Jesus would think of vacation. He walked from town to town doing the Father’s business. He relaxed with friends and taught and prayed and healed. During those years of ministry, I don’t see him having a job, but is plenty busy. I don’t see him and disciples going abroad or going to amusement parks or going to resorts or anything that we do on vacation.

So, I pray that my vacation time would be one of plenty busy doing the Father’s business. I want to relax with friends but also be taught, pray and be healed. Lord, grant me your presence and your guidance. Keep me in your will.

In season, out of season, on vacation or not, He is always eager to change us into His likeness!
