Big Changes Happening

Well, big changes are happening here at work. The Vice President of Assisted Living and Community Based Services is leaving for a position near Sacramento. She’s been with the company for 20+ years. She hasn’t always been happy here, but I really never expected her to go.

I doubt they’ll fill her position. There’s been concern that the staff at Corporate is getting “top heavy” with too many VPs. I started thinking about that and started thinking that maybe the limited growth potential is why I’ve always been restless here. I can do my job with no problem. Tons of work; little challenge (except to deal with many different strong personalities.) And even if my boss, the CFO were to leave, there’s a controller who’s probably more in line for the job anyway.

So, I guess the restlessness stems from feeling trapped in position that has no growth potential. Part of that is my own fault–I really don’t want to drive to Glendale unless I get a new car. (Mine kills my back.) But, more than that, every VP is only 10 or 15 years older than me. They aren’t going anywhere.

So, this VP position opens up and I found myself strangely excited. I know they won’t fill it. There was talk of elimination during the budget season. So, is that my problem?? I want a title? I had a CFO title at both Hillcrest and Santa Teresita but I didn’t stay there either. Do I have antsy feet?

Lord, show me how to be content in whatever circumstance. “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:12b-13

Lord, show me the secret!
